MEDIATION & ARBITRATION EXPERIENCE

Ret. Judge Trapp served on the mediation and arbitration panels of the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court since the mid 80’s until she first took the bench in 2007. She also served as a mediator and arbitrator for the Geauga County Common Pleas Court for five years before becoming an appellate judge. Judge Trapp also led the development of the pro bono foreclosure mediation program in all five counties she served as a judge.


During her sabbatical from the bench (2013-2019) , she was appointed to mediate matters by the Geauga County and Portage County Common Pleas Court judges, the Geauga County Common Pleas Court Juvenile Division judge, and the Lorain County Probate Court judge. She was appointed as panel chair for Rule 29 arbitrations in Cuyahoga County, and the administrative judge of the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court appointed her to the court’s business mediation panel.


Among many matters, she successfully mediated a four-sided construction matter for the Geauga County Common Pleas Court, as well as a consumer fraud/construction matter. She also served as chair of a private arbitration panel hearing a medical malpractice/wrongful death case in Youngstown, and served as the sole arbitrator in a sexual harassment/wage & hour claim in Portage County and a trust interpretation issue in Lorain County.


Her ADR cases spanned a wide variety of matters from consumer, business contract, and employment disputes, construction litigation, complex tort claims, insurance coverage disputes, and probate and real estate matters with claim size ranging from $25,000 or less to more than $14 million. Judge Trapp’s mediation settlement rate was over ninety per cent.
